“I have been volunteering with the HCEC over the last year and it has been a great opportunity to learn and surround myself with people committed to environmental progress. I see the HCEC as playing an important role in our community by providing environmental movements across the region with the necessary research and resources for an effective movement.”
“The Hunter Community Environment Centre is an incredible place that lets people get directly involved in environmental projects. Working with HCEC I’ve designed & handed out posters and flyers and waited tables at a fancy gala dinner. There’s always something meaningful to do, and leaves me feeling like I’ve contributed to something important in these times of environmental uncertainty.”
Volunteer Roles
In the field
We undertake research for reports on local environmental issues and volunteers can sometimes get involved in these. This could include helping us gather data in the field.
Events
Helping us with logistics and to run smooth campaign events and fundraisers involve roles such as food preparation, set-up and pack down, tech support, greeter, photographer and more. We host many events, from snap demonstrations, national summits and community meetings.
Creative work
Our volunteers get together to create promotional, informative and inspiring material for print and social media, including flyers, posters, pamphlets and videos, as well as placards for demonstrations.
Data entry & analysis
We are frequently in need of people who are willing to help with data entry! So many numbers!! This important role helps us collate research, build contact lists for campaigning, understand threatened species data and more. If you have skills in hydrology, chemistry or ecoloogy - we’re always up for a chat.
Phone banking
In the lead up to important events and actions, we like to place a personal phone call to interested audiences. This is another very important role that helps drive people power.
Hit the streets
One of our most important volunteer roles is for people who can hit the streets and make face to face connections. This includes holding the fort at market stalls, handing out flyers and even knocking on doors! “Hello - my name is….”
