Gwandalan woodlandsThe State Government is entering into trade-offs to swap development approval for land donations at Gwanadalan -- on the southern side of Lake Macquarie, in Wyong Shire. While we are cautiously optimistic that "trade-offs" at Catherine Hill Bay and Minmi will protect land in secure public ownership that might not otherwise been able to be, the deal at Gwandalan is excessive and not supportable. We don't believe that the companies involved -- Coal and Allied and Rosecorp -- would ever have been given approval for developments of this scale at this precious site. The Gwandalan bush is part of a larger vegetated block that harbours the highest concentration of Squirrel Gliders in the world. |
