You're invited: Environmentalism @ the ClubEarthling Environmental Activist Forum presents… Environmentalism @ the Club: Silencing Dissent 7:30pm - 11:00pm Saturday 30th September, Newcastle Leagues Club, the Band Room. National Parks St. Newcastle West.
We want to you come and share your story and hear form others as we discuss the myriad inventive ways in which Governments and private companies are trying to silence dissent in contemporary Australia. In 2005, 'anti-terror' laws were used to deport US peace activist Scott Parkin from Australia and Tasmanian timber giant Gunns Ltd. served a $6 million writ against 17 individuals and 3 organisations for defending Tassie forests. Come along, eat drink and talk about how dissent is being silenced in contemporary Australia. Iain Murray (Greenpeace) and Greg Ogle (TWS and Gunns20 Bush Lawyer) will talk us through these two cases, and kick off the story-sharing. For information about the rest of the Earthling program, visit the This Is Not Art website www.thisisnotart.org or go straight to http://earthling.thisisnotart.org Or contact clea@octapod.org.au See you there. |
