NSW Coal actionNSW Coal Action Alert With climate change already having a major impact on human and non-human communities around the world, including here in NSW, it is time to raise the heat under the export coal industry – - NSW’s biggest single contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions.
This year will see the beginning of a rolling direct action campaign to pressure the State Government to take control of the coal industry, stop the acceleration of greenhouse gas emissions from export coal, and lead NSW forward into a post-coal economy. In Sydney this month, major NSW and international environment groups resolved to take a series of actions to stop the expansion of the coal industry in NSW, and the grassroots movement against export coal has been steadily building momentum over the last two years.
Now, no matter where you are, you can take part in direct action against this reckless industry, that not only fuels climate change, but clears native woodlands, cracks rivers and rides roughshod over public interest and due process.
The fight against export coal and climate change is shaping up to the defining environmental campaign for our time.
NEXT NEXT Action: Walk Against Warming Newcastle There will be further action over the summer... to make sure you know about it, or to put your name down for workshops in non-violent direct action, email risingtide@risingtide.org.au ... |

I joined Friends of the Earth and did all the conventional campaigning like writing to MPs, and I still do. I think that's important. But it does not feel enough. Climate change is not just another environmental issue like GM crops. It's a life and death issue. This direct action is necessary because we've got to get the urgency across. What we're doing [against Drax] is symbolic of what everyone should be doing. |
