Gwandalan under the bulldozer? These two trees (a Bloodwood and a Scribbly gum) grow in woodlands adjacent to, and of the same type as, those earmarked for loss to residential sprawl under the Lower Hunter Regional Strategy. Gwandalan isn't even in the Lower Hunter (it is in Wyong Shire) and the 80 ha development here was slipped in to the LHRS at the last minute. Woodlands like these, that are flat, highly productive, and near the coastal fringe are being clearfelled for housing all over the coast and are the reason we need sweeping reform of the Planning process, and of biodiversity protection in general. Rosecorp's proposals for Gwandalan and Catherine Hill Bay are now on exhibition with the Department on Planning. You can find the relevant document on Planning's website Please write in objecting to this unnecessary and unacceptable loss of prime Squirrel Glider habitat and important remnant coastal forest before 16th February. |

Gwandalan under the bulldozer
Kevvo at Gwandalan
Hi George. I find your comments of great interest. Can you or anyone else direct me to some reliable references on the sugar gliders. Maybe we can use that as a partial defence against the developers.
