Save Anvil Hill -- Stop Runaway Climate ChangeThe Hunter Community Environment Centre is a member of the Anvil Hill Alliance, a collection of regional, State and International groups determined to draw a line in the sand and help the Hunter Valley wean itself off its fossil fuel addiction. Not only does open-cut coal mining destroy rapidly vanishing native vegetation, ruin creeks and waterways and spread dust and chest infections throughout the Upper Hunter, it is also fuelling global climate change. The Anvil Hill open-cut proposal by Centennial Coal is one of a number of massive new mines and mine expansions being proposed by the members of the Newcastle Coal Infrastucture Group (NCIG) who want to build a third coal loading terminal on Kooragang Island. Others include Tasman (Donaldson Coal), Wilpinjong (Excel), Moolarben (Felix Resources), Wambo (Excel), Ashton expansion (Felix Resources), Mount Arthur expansion (BHP).
