Save Anvil Hill -- Stop Runaway Climate ChangeThe Hunter Community Environment Centre is a member of the Anvil Hill Alliance, a collection of regional, State and International groups determined to draw a line in the sand and help the Hunter Valley wean itself off its fossil fuel addiction. Not only does open-cut coal mining destroy rapidly vanishing native vegetation, ruin creeks and waterways and spread dust and chest infections throughout the Upper Hunter, it is also fuelling global climate change. The Anvil Hill open-cut proposal by Centennial Coal is one of a number of massive new mines and mine expansions being proposed by the members of the Newcastle Coal Infrastucture Group (NCIG) who want to build a third coal loading terminal on Kooragang Island. Others include Tasman (Donaldson Coal), Wilpinjong (Excel), Moolarben (Felix Resources), Wambo (Excel), Ashton expansion (Felix Resources), Mount Arthur expansion (BHP). Popular contentRandom Quote"There is a line between public relations and propaganda - or there should be. And there is a difference between using your skills, in good faith, to help rescue a battered reputation and using them to twist the truth - to sow confusion and doubt on an issue that is critical to human survival. And it is infuriating - as a public relations professional - to watch my colleagues use their skills, their training and their considerable intellect to poison the international debate on climate change." |
